Forensic services

I am trained in the assessment, treatment and risk management for individuals who have engaged in sexually harmful and/or violent behaviours. I have extensive experience in working with complex needs and presentations within a custodial and community setting. I have experience in assessing mental disorder, learning disability/difficulties and neurodevelopmental conditions which can all impact on a persons ability to engage and understand the criminal justice process.  I am trained in the following tools:

​With regards to therapeutic work I am trained in Eye Movement Desentisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I can provide evidence based therapy/intervention work within CJS organisations pre-sentence and post sentence.   I have a private clinic specialising in trauma therapy for forensic and non-forensic  clients and am able to provide in-person and online sessions.

I have designed, developed and consulted on trauma-informed (TI) therapeutic services within the criminal justice services and am currently embedding a TI ethos within the Isle of Man Prison and Probation Service. This includes the development of group work interventions which are TI and led by current research. 

I have vast experience in providing training and supervision to other professionals and criminal justice agencies, covering topics such as mental health awareness, working in a trauma-informed way,  psychological formulation and risk assessment. 

Assessment

I am able to provide   psychological risk assessments relating to violence, sexual violence, domestic violence and stalking. These assessments allow me to provide  evidence as an expert witness in the criminal courts. 

I can also conduct personality-based assessments, cognitive ability assessments which can focus on an individuals functioning (WAIS-IV) and neurodiversity assessments (ASD, ADHD)

Interventions & Therapy

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), which is currently the number one NICE guideline for trauma therapy. 

I am also trained in  Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) . Inaddition, I have provided clinical supervision for group work interventions run in the CJS which are underpinned by CBT.  

I also have a vast experience in the carrying out 1:1 and group work interventions which are offence specific.

Training

I am able to complete a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) within organisations to allow the training needs of staff to be identified. Following this I can then design and deliver suitable training packages.

I have previously trained staff  in areas such as mental health, risk assessment ,trauma informed practice, formulation and learning disability awareness. 

Training has formed a large part of my role as a forensic psychologist.

Supervision

I currently offer supervision to trainee forensic psychologist who are working towards completing their stage 2  qualification in Forensic Psychology. For over 5 years  was an Assessor for the BPS , assessing trainees across the UK to determine their competecne 

I am also able to provide supervision to other professionals in the CJS who are carrying out risk assessments and or intervention work .

I am able to provide supervision on a one to one or in a group.
